H-D Offers XM Satellite Option

Harley-Davidson introduces the new Advanced Audio System by Harman/Kardon as standard equipment on four 2006 Touring motorcycles.
August 3, 2005

Milwuakee, WI - Harley-Davidson sets a new standard for motorcycle audio systems with the introduction of the new Advanced Audio System by Harman/Kardon as standard equipment on four 2006 Touring motorcycles, including the new FLHX/I Street Glide.

The new Advanced Audio System assembled in Northridge, Calif., by Harman/Kardon has been designed to Harley-Davidson specifications by Harman/Kardon and is state-of-the-art for the motorcycle industry. The AM/FM/XMReady/WB/CD-MP3 system provides improved sound and function for the base radio, and is designed to integrate seamlessly with a number of new electronic accessories from Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Accessories, including the industry’s first fully integrated XM satellite radio option.

The base Advanced Audio System unit features improved speaker fidelity with fully utilized 20 watts of power per channel. The Compact Disc (CD) player is compatible with MP3-format discs that can store more than 10 hours on a single CD. The digital display enables flexible information views that are easy to read and have an intuitive menu. Upgraded materials provide improved durability of the speakers.

New Plug-and-Play Accessories
Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Accessories will offer a number of new electronic accessories designed to integrate with the Advanced Audio System. XM Satellite Radio provides subscription-based, coast-to-coast reception of more than 150 channels of music and information in digital sound quality. If desired, one channel can be received continuously traveling from Maine to California, and riders can choose from various categories of music, as well as comedy, news, sports and talk radio. A three month trial subscription to the XM service is also included. The Advanced Audio high-output amplification system provides significant power increase and better sound quality at highway speeds with 40 watts per channel for up to 160 watts total output.

The Advanced Audio Intercom is flashed into the base radio and includes push-to-talk hand controls and headset receptacles for rider-to-passenger intercom that provides easy and clear communication while riding.

Advanced Audio Hands-Free Cell Phone Module utilizes Bluetooth protocol wireless transmission format to send and receive calls through the audio system, preferably with a headset. Mounted compactly inside the Tour-Pak, the system requires a Bluetooth-equipped cell phone. Calls can be sent and received via the radio hand controls, and names and numbers can be viewed on the system screen to place outgoing calls. Full voice-activation can also be used to place outgoing calls.

The Advanced Audio CB Bike-to-Bike Communications/Intercom Combination can be mounted inside the fairing and is included as standard equipment on Ultra Classic Electra Glide models. It can be used with other motorcycles equipped with the system and other vehicles with CB radios. Rider-to-passenger intercom function is included with the CB module for easy and clear communication.

Additional future accessories are planned, including a Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) navigation system.
